Dr (H.C) Martha Tilaar is an iconic Indonesian entrepreneur who built Martha Tilaar Group - one of the leading beauty companies in Indonesia - from a small garage salon in Jakarta 55 years ago.
Tilaar, born in 1937 in Kebumen in Java, studied at the Academy of Beauty Culture in Bloomington, Indiana in the United States between 1967-1969.
This took place when she was accompanying her husband, Alex Tilaar, who was studying in Indiana University on a scholarship grant.
