Provital has taken the wraps off Intensilk, said to be the first cosmetic active to mimic caloric restriction in adipocytes for an intensive anti-cellulite treatment.
Intensilk is derived from locally sourced apple flowers harvested from a family-owned fruit farm located just 150km from Provital’s facilities in Barcelona, Spain.
Antioxidant flavonoids naturally present in apple flowers, such as phlorizin – in which Intensilk is standardized – trigger caloric restriction in adipocytes by competing with glucose for binding to glucose-transporters.
By fuelling from this circular bio-energy, Intensilk creates a continuous metabolic loop that recycles energy back to the skin by mobilizing stored lipids.
To unravel the dermohacking mechanism behind Intensilk, a multi-omic analysis combining transcriptomics, proteomics and lipid analysis was conducted, revealing a clear downregulation of the PI3K–Akt–mTORC1 axis, a pathway commonly linked to caloric restriction and autophagy; thus promoting lipophagy to recycle lipid droplets into energy.
Backed by advanced in vitro and in vivo research, Intensilk targets all key physiological factors in cellulite development:
• Subcutaneous metabolic reprogramming by inhibiting adipogenesis, stimulating lipolysis and improving mitochondrial efficiency, hence stimulating ATP production and lipid mobilization.
• Remodeling tissue architecture by acting on subcutaneous inflammation, oxidative stress, and matrix organization, while boosting collagen and elastin production in the dermis.
• Reducing “orange peel” appearance by smoothing dimples, restoring firmness and tone, and decreasing lipid accumulation.
Further proven by instrumental, topographical, and biomechanical analysis on 56 female volunteers, Intensilk demonstrated statistically significant results versus placebo - after 28 and 56 days - in the reduction of cellulite dimples, skin roughness, the increased skin firmness, elasticity and hydration; as well as in the enhanced dynamic leg tone, and decreased dermo-hypodermal junction length, thighs circumference and hypodermis thickness.
Furthermore, the ingredient achieved even better statistics in some key parameters when the volunteers applied product or placebo with mechanical massage using a roller.
“Intensilk stands as a 100% natural origin (ISO 16128), COSMOS-approved ingredient that, by mimicking caloric restriction and enhancing the efficacy of mechanical massages, enables premium, clinic-inspired body care positioning, aligned with the rise of in-spa and medical-aesthetic treatments; thus, providing a longevity-driven solution by effectively dermohacking cellulite through circular bio-energy,” said a spokeswoman.
