DSM-Firmenich has launched Alpaflor Neurosooth, a climate-adaptive bioactive designed to help interrupt the skin–mind stress loop.
By inhibiting key neuroinflammatory mediators involved in stress signaling and boosting β-endorphin production, Alpaflor Neurosooth helps reduce irritation, restore comfort and reinforce barrier resilience under environmental stress.
The bioactive is derived from Scutellaria alpina, a resilient Alpine plant growing between 1,500 and 2,500 meters under extreme and volatile conditions.
Over time, this glacier survivor has developed powerful adaptive defence mechanisms that enable it to thrive where few species can.
“Cultivated responsibly, Scutellaria alpina is organically grown on old Alpine moraines at high altitude, ensuring zero impact on wild populations,” said Meriem Saber, global sustainability director at Beauty & Care at DSM-Firmenich.
“The supply chain is local, ethical and transparent, supporting Alpine biodiversity and responsible agricultural practices. A green, gentle extraction method preserves the plant’s chemical integrity while minimizing environmental impact,” she added.
Robust in vitro assessments and a ‘HeatWave Challenge’ in vivo study are said to confirm the ingredient’s efficacy.
Alpaflor Neurosooth significantly inhibits in vitro neuroinflammatory mediators such as CGRP, TSLP and IL-33, known to trigger sensations like stinging and itching.
It triples β-endorphin production in skin cells in vitro, reduces stress-induced redness by 34% versus placebo, and reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) by 26% under heat stress conditions, both after two months.
Beyond visible improvements, well-being evaluations conducted using the EmoCompass methodology demonstrate up to a 200% increase in feelings of safety and calm versus placebo after two months, reinforcing the ingredient’s holistic impact.
Building on this innovation, DSM-Firmenich has developed Evermind, a climate-adaptive lineup that translates the adaptive power of Alpaflor Neurosooth into formulations designed to soothe sensitivity, strengthen the skin barrier and promote emotional balance in daily routines.
