Thomas Swan makes splash with silicone-free emollients

UK personal care ingredient maker Thomas Swan & Co has launched CasEmol, a range of biodegradable paraffinic emollients.

As regulatory restrictions tighten around the use of volatile silicones (D4, D5, and D6) as emollients in cosmetics and personal care applications, the range is designed to deliver the sensory appeal of silicones without the environmental concerns.

The CasEmol range features ultra-high purity linear alkane hydrocarbons (C12–C22) that are said to provide exceptional formulation flexibility and sensory diversity, from dry and powdery to rich and cushiony.

The CasEmol range currently includes six emollients: CasEmol 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, and 22, offering a tailored sensory experience for virtually any personal care application.

These emollients are colourless, odourless, and oxidation-resistant—making them ideal for use in modern skin care, hair care, and sun care formulations.

“CasEmol delivers the silky, luxurious textures that formulators expect from traditional silicones, but with improved biodegradability and regulatory compatibility,” said Stephen Wilson, Commercial Director – Performance Chemicals at Thomas Swan.
