Seppic reveals skin microbiome efficacy of flagship active

French personal care ingredients maker Seppic has revealed skin microbiome efficacy data for its flagship active Aquaxyl.

The Air Liquide subsidiary said the findings demonstrate the ingredient’s ability to support the skin's biological balance, thus complementing its recognized action on the skin barrier with a global homeostasis approach.

In vitro investigations highlighted a dual biological action.

Firstly, a selective prebiotic action (from 1.5%); the active ingredient significantly stimulates the growth of beneficial commensal bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis (+28%) and Corynebacterium xerosis (+25%), essential for maintaining a healthy barrier.

Secondly, inhibition of pathogenic biofilms (at 3%); the data reveals a 59% reduction in biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus (reconstructed human epidermis model).

By limiting the adhesion and colonization of these opportunistic micro-organisms, Aquaxyl helps prevent dysbiosis and protects skin balance.

Seppic said the data illustrates its scientific rigour and expertise.

“A market reference adopted by over 2,500 global brands over the last five years, Aquaxyl has established itself as a blockbuster of hydration thanks to its patented sugar complex (Xylitylglucoside - Anhydroxylitol - Xylitol),” said a spokeswoman.

“This ingredient stands out for its universality and tolerance, proven across a wide range of phototypes,” she added.

“Today, Aquaxyl demonstrates its ability to support the skin's biological balance, thus complementing its recognized action on the skin barrier with a global homeostasis approach.”
